Greetings from the Statue of Unity, on the occasion of the 74th Indian Republic Day, 26th January 2023.
The Statue of Unity is the world’s tallest monument, with a height of 182 metres. It is located in the Narmada River, at Kevadia in Gujarat, India. The Narmada river valley is flanked by Vindhyas and Satpura mountain ranges in central India. The iconic statue is located near the Sardar Sarovar Dam built between these two mountain ranges. The face of the statue looks towards the expansive sarovar (reservoir).
The Statue of Unity depicts Indian statesman and independence activist Vallabhbhai Patel. It is an iconic symbol of the ‘Iron Man’, who played an important role during India’s freedom struggle and thereafter in the unification of the princely states. It reminds the world of the towering personality of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the nucleus of India’s integration as a united country, as we see it today.
26th January is celebrated as the Indian Republic Day. It is a public holiday where the country marks and celebrates the date on which the Constitution of India came into effect on 26 January 1950.
This image shows polar star trails behind the Statue of Unity, and the Narmada flowing below. The colossal statue is located on a rocky crop near the right bank, while the image has been made from the left bank of the Narmada.
