Aurora and Leonid Meteor
On 7th November 2020 Neelam and me were flying from New York to Delhi. Usually the plane flies eastwards on a northerly route, this time with the maximum latutude was about ~60°. We tried for a left side window seat so that I could point my camera towards the north, We were lucky to get a left side window seat. The night comes quickly flying in the eastwards direction. About one-third into the flight I raised the window there was a spectacular bright shimmering curtain outside the window. Ursa Major was engulfed in the green aurora curtain.I setup my camera on the window, the shooting went on for little more than 2 hours. The aurora increased and decreased in brightness many times during this time. I did not see it at that time, but a very bright Leonid meteor got recorded in the sequence. The smoke from the burnt meteor was visible in the image sequence for as long as 16 minutes.
